Bloom’ in New Year’s Resolution Tree Activity

Good Tidings By Julie Pirkle

Don’t put away your artificial Christmas tree just yet. Use it to create a blooming New Year’s resolution tree for your preschooler. Preschoolers will enjoy setting goals for the New Year and hanging reminders of their resolutions from the tree. As their New Year’s goals are met, a colorful tissue paper flower will bloom from the tree, and preschoolers will beam with pride over their accomplishments. The New Year’s resolution tree activity is a fantastic tool to help preschoolers visualize their progress in meeting their goals.

Scotch Tape

What to Do

Step 1:

Cut approximately 10 three-inch strips of tissue paper in a variety of colors.

Step 2:

Sit down with your preschooler and discuss his/her goals for the New Year. Write down one New Year’s resolution on each strip of tissue paper. Use as many or as few strips as needed. For example: “Learn to ride a bike,” “Count to 10,” or “Eat my vegetables.”

Step 3:

Help your preschooler tape the strips to the Christmas tree. Arrange them in the same manner as you would decorate a Christmas tree.

Step 4:

Once your preschooler accomplishes one of his/her New Year’s resolutions, create a tissue paper flower in the same color as the completed strip and hang it in the strip's place.

Step 5:

Repeat step 4 until all of your preschoolers New Year’s resolutions have come to fruition.
