Circle Hunt Collage Activity

Photo (C) Julie PirkleTake your preschooler on an adventurous “hunt” for circle shapes. Use old magazines for your preschooler’s hunting ground. Your preschooler will get a kick out of identifying circle shapes in magazines, cutting them out and creating a circle collage masterpiece to proudly display on the wall or refrigerator. Not only will the circle hunt activity, help your preschooler with shape recognition, but the cutting process is a great way to work on hand to eye coordination, motor skills and scissor control.

What to Do

Step 1:

Have your preschooler flip through the pages of the magazines and identify circle shapes.

Step 2:

After your preschooler identifies a circle shape, have him/her cut it out. Younger preschoolers may need assistance with cutting.

Step 3:

Once all the circle shapes have been cut out, have your preschooler glue them to a piece of construction paper.

Step 4:

Hang your completed circle collage on the wall or refrigerator so your preschooler can look at it often, reinforcing his/her ability to recognize circle shapes!

Circle Hunt Collage Activity Variation

*Use this activity to reinforce recognition of all shapes. Have your preschooler “hunt” for squares, triangles and rectangles too!

*Instead of making a collage with magazines, "hunt" around the house with your preschooler to identify circles or other shapes in household items like the circular shape of doorknobs, square couch cushions, a rectagular kitchen table, etc.
