What to Do

Step 1:

Play a fast song and instruct your preschooler to break out his/her fast dance moves.

Step 2:

Play a slow song and instruct your preschool to show off his/her slow dance moves.

Step 3:

Repeat fast and slow songs, allowing your preschooler to dance for as long as he/she likes. Make a point to talk about the concepts of fast and slow as much as possible during the activity. For example, "This is a fast song. Move your arms and feet fast. Your slow dance moves are great!"

Additional Activity Ideas to Demonstrate Fast and Slow Concepts

* Instruct your preschooler to walk in slow motion. Then, have him/her run as fast as he/she can.

* Have your preschooler sing his/her favorite song. Then, ask him/her to sing it as fast as he/she can. The "fast version" is sure to provoke a few chuckles!
