Family Thanksgiving Tree Activity

Grow a tree of thanks right in your very own home this Thanksgiving. Erect a family Thanksgiving tree on a wall in your home using colorful leaf cutouts and butcher paper. Your Thanksgiving tree will be a beautiful site blooming with leaves that represent all the things and people your family is thankful for this holiday season. The family Thanksgiving tree activity is a wonderful way to celebrate the blessings in your life, and is certain to become a beloved holiday tradition each Thanksgiving.

What You Will Need

Variety of Leaf Cutouts

Brown Butcher Paper

Black Sharpie

Scotch Tape

What to Do

Step 1:

Construct a tree trunk with brown butcher paper and tape it to an open space on a wall or door.

Step 2:

Sit down as a family with your leaf cutouts and Sharpie, and share what each of you is thankful for this holiday season.

Step 3:

Write down what you and your family are thankful for on the leaves. For example: One leaf might say “Grandma.” Another leaf may say “French Fries.”

Tip: Allow your preschooler to give thanks for whatever he/she wants to no matter how silly it may be.

Step 4:

Tape your Thanksgiving leafs around your tree trunk so that it looks like a tree.

Step 5:

Keep a supply of blank leaves near your Thanksgiving tree and invite guests who visit your home to add their own sentiments of thanks.

Family Thanksgiving Tree Activity Tips

* Snap a photo of your preschooler in front of the Thanksgiving tree for the scrapbook.

* After Thanksgiving, save the Thanksgiving tree leaves in a special box. Preschoolers will enjoy looking back on their sentiments of thanks year after year.
