Grow Your Own Magical Halloween Pumpkin Patch Activity

With a few “candy corn seeds” and patch of fresh dirt, you and your preschooler can “grow” a magical Halloween pumpkin patch right in your very own backyard. Cast a sweet spell, plant your seeds in an empty flowerbed and in a few days real pumpkins will appear! The secret ingredient: the magical touch of mommy and daddy or grandma and grandpa. The magical Halloween pumpkin patch activity is a fun holiday tradition for preschoolers.

What You Will Need Difficulty Level 1 out of 5Grandparent Friendly

A handful of Candy Corns

A small, empty patch of dirt in your front or backyard

Three or more fresh pumpkins

Watering Can

What to Do

Step 1:

Choose a patch of dirt in your front or backyard to plant your “seeds” and grow your pumpkins.

Step 2:

Help your preschooler dig a few a small holes in the dirt for your “seeds” One hole, for every pumpkin you want to grow.

Step 3:

Put your “candy corn seeds” in the holes and cover with dirt.

Step 4:

Cast a magical pumpkin growth spell! Hocus Pocus Pumpkins grow Big pumpkins, Small pumpkins Sprout from my sweet candy corn seeds Poof!

Step 5:

Have your preschooler water the dirt once a day.

Step 6:

Within three to seven days, “sprout” your pumpkins. When you’re ready for the magical pumpkins to appear, go to the store, buy the desired number of fresh pumpkins, and place them in the spots where your preschooler planted his/her candy corn seeds while he/she sleeps.

Step 7:

Tell your preschooler to go water the magical Halloween pumpkin patch. He/she will be delighted to discover that real pumpkins have appeared!

Grow Your Own Magical Halloween Pumpkin Patch Activity Tips

*Preschool Activities recommends planting your magical Halloween pumpkin patch three to five days before Halloween. Then, your preschooler will discover his/her pumpkins just in time to carve them for Halloween evening!

*The magical Halloween pumpkin patch is a wonderful family activity. Have every member of the family plant his/her own seeds so each family member has a special pumpkin for Halloween.
