Christmas Party Activity - Tree Trimming Relay

It’s no secret that preschoolers love decorating the Christmas tree. Turn your preschooler’s holiday passion into a fun party activity with the tree trimming relay. Preschoolers will get a kick out of using tinsel, garland and ornaments to decorate one of their fellow playmates just like a spectacular Christmas tree. This unique holiday preschool activity is guaranteed to spruce up any Christmas party.
What You Will Need
Non-breakable Christmas Tree Ornaments
What to Do
Step 1:
Divide preschoolers up into even teams. No more than four preschoolers to a team works best.
Note: You will need at least two teams of two in order to participate in this holiday activity. Don’t worry if you have an uneven amount of participants either. It won’t make a difference if the teams are slightly uneven.
Step 2:
Supply each team with an equal amount of tinsel, garland, ornaments and ornament hooks.
Step 3:
Have each team choose a preschooler to be the tree.
Step 4:
Once each team has designated a “tree,” give them approximately five minutes to decorate their human tree with the supplies provided.
Note: Adjust the amount of time given to decorate based on the overall progress of the participants. For example: If after five minutes, it looks like most of the preschoolers need more time, tack on a few minutes. If after three minutes, it appears that most of the preschoolers are finishing up, call time.
Step 5:
Time’s up! Time to pick a winner. Choose the winning team based on whose “tree” is not only the most creatively decorated, but closest to being completely decorated.
Step 6:
Award the winning team with a special prize. Preschool Activities recommends a holiday ornament to compliment the holiday party activity’s theme. Give all of the preschoolers a candy cane for participating.

Don’t forget to have a camera on hand to snap a photo of each team with their decorated “tree.”
