Recycled Wrapping Paper Roll Hockey Activity

Don’t throw away those old wrapping paper rolls! Use them to create recycled hockey sticks. Preschoolers will have a blast pushing a soft ball with old wrapping paper rolls to compete in a homegrown hockey game. The recycled wrapping paper roll hockey activity promotes physical activity and teamwork.

What You Will Need

Difficulty Level 2 out of 5 HandsOld Wrapping Paper Rolls (One for each preschooler participating.)

A Soft Ball

Two Large Boxes

A Large, Open Playing Area

What to Do

Step 1:

Position boxes at opposite ends of your playing area with the open side facing each other to create a hockey goal.

Step 2:

Divide preschoolers into two even teams, assigning each team a goal.

Note: You will need at least two preschoolers to participate in the recycled wrapping paper roll hockey activity.

Step 3:

Arm each preschooler participating with a wrapping paper roll.

Step 4:

Throw the ball into the center of the playing area. Instruct preschoolers to use the wrapping paper rolls like hockey sticks and try and push the ball into the goal.

Step 5:

Award a point to the appropriate team each time the ball makes it into the goal. The team that scores 10 goals first wins.

Recycled Wrapping Paper Roll Hockey Activity Safety

*Minimize sports injuries by equipping preschoolers with elbow and knee pads and helmets if possible.

*Appoint a preschool referee to keep watch. Arm him/her with a whistle to call out preschoolers who are using their recycled wrapping paper roll hockey stick inappropriately.
