Valentine Heart Puzzle Activity

Rose Petals in the Shape of a Valentine's Heart By Julie Pirkle

Preschoolers will love finding their perfect match with the Valentine heart puzzle activity. With homemade Valentine heart puzzle pieces, preschoolers will set about to find the other half of their heart by trying to match it up with the other players. This preschool holiday activity is also a great tool to randomly pair off preschoolers for other projects in the classroom this Valentine's Day.

What You Will Need

Difficulty Level 3 out of 5 HandsRed, Pink and/or White Construction Paper

Scissors

Felt Tip Pen

Valentine Heart Puzzle Activity Preparation

Step 1:

Using the construction paper, cut out enough Valentine hearts for half the number of preschoolers participating. For example, if 10 preschoolers are participating, cut out five Valentine hearts.

Note: You'll want to make your Valentine heart cutouts approximately six inches tall.

Step 2:

Once you have cut out all of the heart shapes, cut each Valentine heart in half using a puzzle effect. For example, don't cut your hearts in half with a straight line. Use squiggly lines, etc. to resemble puzzle pieces. Try to make each set of Valentine heart halves noticeably different from the others.

Step 3:

Shuffle the Valentine heart cutouts so they are in random order.

What to Do

Step 1:

Give each preschooler participating a Valentine heart half.

Step 2:

Instruct preschoolers to mingle and find the "match" to their Valentine heart by trying to fit it with other preschoolers'. The first duo to "complete" their Valentine heart wins.

Step 3:

Play can continue until each preschooler has a chance to find their Valentine heart puzzle match.

Step 4:

Award all participants with a handful of conversation hearts.

Valentine Heart Puzzle Activity Suggestion

Use the Valentine heart puzzle match activity as an icebreaker to pair up preschool partners for subsequent activities.
